Kay Cecile Jones

Born and educated in Cornwall Kay had a career at the United Nations and the World Trade Organisation in Geneva before accompanying her husband to Hong Kong.

Kay had for many years been a pupil at the late Miss Irene Luke's well known Cecchetti Ballet School in Newquay and in Hong Kong she rediscovered her love of ballet, first establishing a ballet school in the famous Repulse Bay Hotel and later becoming one of the founders of the Hong Kong Academy of Ballet (to train professional dancers) and from it the professional performing company (The Hong Kong Ballet).

The Hong Kong Ballet has developed into one of the foremost and most respected ballet companies in Asia.

Kay returned to Cornwall in 1983 and became principal of the Capitol School of Dance, which has branches in St. Austell and Truro. She founded Duchy Ballet in 1997 on the opening of the Hall For Cornwall and is delighted that it has found an audience and that it has provided the opportunity for young dancers to train, rehearse and perform within a professional setting alongside artists from the national stage.
