Giselle 2003

Alongside The Mousehole Cat the company chose to present almost the oldest extant romantic ballet “Giselle”. We were privileged to have two contrasting and moving couples for the principal roles of Giselle and Albrecht. Amanda Armstrong and Juanjo Arques were our guests from English National Ballet and Orlando Russell and Kim Vieira came all the way from Holland on leave from Dutch National Ballet . Laura Hussey, also from English National Ballet, guested as Myrthe, the vengeful Queen of the Wilis, alongside Duchy Ballet’s young star, Robyn Green.

Then young dancers of Duchy Ballet gave the principals their enthusiastic support through the joys and the tragedy of Act l. This was followed by the beauty of the ensemble work in Act ll in which the Wilis were skilfully coached by Sianne Strasberg.

This particular season is a hard act to follow.
