This was the first time that Duchy Ballet asked Terence Etheridge
to create two new ballets for the Company and the first time
that the audience was treated to contrasting styles of dance.
The music of George Gershwin was an obvious attraction, particularly
to older members of the audience. The ballet was based on
an idea of the growth of the movie musical in the 1930s and
the stars and starlets vying for the attention of the directors.
The music was arranged by our company pianist Anthony Trodd,
and included well-known and lesser known songs and the jazzy
preludes.
Former international opera star Benjamin Luxon, agreed to
be the narrator for “Peter and the Wolf”. Ben
was born and raised in Cornwall, and was full of praise for
the professionalism shown by the young dancers of Duchy Ballet.
Sara and Jonathan Barton from Ballet West were the extraordinarily
talented brother and sister duo who starred in ‘Stepping
out to Gershwin’ and ‘The Kingdom of Sweets’.
