Across the pond: US-based
choreographer flies in.
Thursday December 2 2004 THE Duchy Ballet has looked
across the pond for inspiration with its latest production
by flying in choreographer Alun Jones.
Welsh-born Alun, who now lives in Kentucky, joined the youth
ballet company last week to start work on a triple bill production
to be staged at the Hall For Cornwall next year.
The Mousehole Cat, originally performed by the company two
years ago, will be resurrected alongside two original pieces
of choreography - Tristan and Isolde and Britten on the Beach,
set to the work of British composer Benjamin Britten.
The Duchy Ballet offers young dancers from several schools
across Cornwall the opportunity to perform in full-scale productions
with professional guest artistes.
Alun said: "You can have a lot of dancing schools but
if they haven't got a performing outlet as a group, they are
missing out on a lot. It's very, very important. It's wonderful
to have such a theatre as the Hall For Cornwall."
The show will be staged at the HfC from Thursday, March 31,
until Sunday, April 3.
