Emmy award-winner, Alun Jones, has been flown from the United States by the Duchy Ballet to choreograph its headline show for spring 2006, The Nutcracker.
The world-renowned choreographer is taking time out of his usual schedule to help the Cornish-based company with the amazing production, sponsored by Coodes Solicitors. Alun Jones has choreographed over 40 ballets throughout his career, across 45 US states, Hong Kong, Portugal and England. Since his first professional debut with the Welsh National Opera in 1960, Alun has won an Emmy Award for the documentary on the making of his ballet Lucy, as well as receiving the prestigious Milner Award, Kentucky's highest honour in the arts in 1978.
Alun Jones said: "It is a great honour to work with such talented young stars. The Duchy Ballet is a great platform for aspiring young dancers to perform in a professional setting and experience working with national stars, many of whom are their idols.
"Having worked on large national and international productions, I relish the
opportunity to offer my knowledge to such a worthwhile company as the Duchy Ballet which is investing in the talent of tomorrow."
Kay Jones, founder and Artistic Director of the Duchy Ballet, said: "We are extremely privileged to have Alun fly over especially to donate his time to making The Nutcracker a success. Without the commitment and dedication of experts like Alun, who work on the production, the shows simply would not go ahead. To them, we are grateful and happy that they feel the importance of Duchy Ballet."
Duchy Ballet began in 1997 to mark the opening of the Hall of Cornwall and over the years has given hundreds of young dancers the opportunity of performing in front of ever increasing audiences.
Coodes Solicitors, sponsors of Duchy Ballet, has supported the company for over two years. Managing partner Jeremy Harvey said: "Coodes' sponsorship of The Nutcracker reinforces our commitment to our community's gifted young dancers."
